QualiBuild at the Nordic Exchange Conference

On 15-16 September 2015, the consortium from SWEBUILD, the Swedish BUILD UP Skills project, hosted an international workshop for representatives from the Swedish, Finnish and Irish BUILD UP Skills pillar II projects. Fintan O’Hora from LIT, representing QualiBuild, attended.

Harri Heinaro, Motiva,  presented BEEP – BUILD UP Skills, Finland

Elements of the Finnish project focus on insufficient skills in the areas of structural physics, airtightness, heat insulation, and moisture control as well as improving attitudes regarding work and communication on site.

Fintan O’Hora, Limerick Institute of Technology presented Qualibuild, Ireland

The focus of this presentation was on Train the Trainers and the Foundation Energy Skills course currently being piloted in a number of key locations around Ireland and associated training material and supporting resources. Discussions were held around finance and sustainability and the introduction of a registration system for construction workers.

The main objective of Swebuild is to educate 500 trainers that will in turn educate 18,000 craftsmen by 2017. This number will increase to 100,000 by 2020.  The Swebuild project is still being developed but a fully developed education plan is to be rolled out in spring 2016.
